As foreseen by Mahatma Gandhi in his ‘Hind Swaraj’, the western developmental paradigm, based on centralized technologies and urbanization, has given rise to serious problems like increasing inequity, which leads to crime and violence, and climate change due to environmental degradation.
The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and providing appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable development. It also aims to create a balance between society and the academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions. There are huge developmental disorders between the rural and urban sectors such as inequity in health, education, incomes and basic amenities as well as employment opportunities. It aims to make eco-friendly development in the villages and create appropriate employment opportunities locally. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a much needed and highly challenging initiative.
Brainware University (BWU) has been nominated by the MHRD as the participating Institution under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan mission.
Under this flagship program of the MHRD, Brainware University has adopted five nearby villages (Faldi, Panshila, Chakbarbaria, Chaturia & Dugbaria) under 24 Parganas (N) district. The BWU staff and students have conducted baseline surveys (both at village level and household level) of these villages and has been conducting various developmental activities.
Among the various developmental activities, the Department of Allied Health Sciences had recently held an eye-screening program in Faldi High School on 5th February, 2020. For more details, click here
