Legal Aid Camp

Brainware University prides itself for imbibing ethical values and humanitarian concerns among all the students so that they can emerge as a responsible citizen. To this end, the Department of Law launched its free legal aid clinic on 11 January 2020 to deliver legal assistance to the underprivileged. The inaugural ceremony which was attended by various dignitaries garnered massive appreciation. The Honourable Vice Chancellor of NUJS had expressed his wish to replicate this system amongst several institutions across the country.

Through this initiative the university hopes to pay back its debt to society and contribute in creating a more just world. In India, it is the financially disadvantaged and women who are disproportionately vulnerable to the loopholes of our justice system and hence need our support the most. Our mobile legal camp provides a safe space for them to seek advice without any monetary transaction and ensures that their fundamental rights are not violated. In addition to contributing to societal development it shall also encourage our students to implement their knowledge and prepare them for a successful legal career. We hope to slowly work towards combating societal inequities so that our nation can reach the zenith of development. This will also improve the students’ clinical legal skills while developing an empathetic attitude towards the poor and marginalised.

The Brainware University Legal Aid Clinic since its very inception has been organizing legal literacy and legal aid camps in various parts of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Additionally, it has organised various drives aiming to sensitize people about the existing laws prohibiting sexual abuse, child trafficking, and child labour. While traditionally legal aid tackled only the poorest and most marginalized, our policy has been to provide legal aid to all sections of society and educate them about their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
