For AI to survive; our humanity has to survive: A seminar on 'Gender Equality'

"... men rule the world. This made sense – a thousand years ago. Because human beings lived then in a world in which physical strength was the most important attribute for survival; the physically stronger person was more likely to lead. And men in general are physically stronger. (There are of course many exceptions.) Today, we live in a vastly different world. The person more qualified to lead is not the physically stronger person. It is the more intelligent, the more knowledgeable, the more creative, more innovative." These are the words of famous Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

At the seminar on 'Engaging Boys and Young Men in Gender Equality', the speaker Ronita Biswas who is an Assistant Teacher at Garden High International School, echoed the same feeling. The seminar was organised by the Department of English and Literary Studies on June 6, 2023.

She pointed out that gender equality is not a topic to be discussed in AC rooms, but it is a praxis. "It is fashionable to talk about AI but when our basic humanity is compromised then AI has no value," Biswas stated. Biswas time and again highlighted that we need to recognise the human rights. She said, "When both sides of the spectrum are easier, life becomes easier."
