National Engineers' Day celebrated at BWU to invoke the future technological innovations

On the occasion of National Engineers Day, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Brainware University in collaboration with Tech-club conducted a full-day event, technically sponsored by the CSI students chapter on September 15, 2022.

The first part of the event included a national seminar on the current visions of engineers.

The programme started with the lighting of lamp by the chief guest, Dr. Debashish Giri, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, MAKAUT.

While addressing the students, Dr. Susanta Kumar Mondal, Dean Engineering and Director of IQAC said, "Engineers should like to see the nation where they will be after 10 years. The students shall notice the problems and try to give eco-friendly and cost-effective solutions."

After the felicitation, Dr. Debashish Giri addressed the event as a tribute to the most renowned engineer of India, Dr. M. Visvesvaraya. He advised the students to overcome fear and face the hurdles. The chief speaker Mr. Debashish Roy, Product Manager, TCS ION, wished the budding engineers and inspired them to build a better nation. The HOD of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Mrs. Debdutta Pal, expressed the day as a promising day for the engineers. She said," If we try hard then nothing is impossible. Today we should promise that without any fear we shall try to solve the problems."

As the technical session started, Dr. Debashish Giri in his presentation on 'Cyberspace and Cybersecurity' gave a proper idea about the virtual world and the loopholes in it. He said," as we need security in the real world, the same is required in the cyber world. Passwords are not enough but engineers can provide the security."

The session was followed by Mr. Debashish Roy's presentation on 'Artificial Intelligence and Data Science'. He spoke about Basic AI systems and the requirements of Data Science in different streams. "Intelligence is defined as having components like learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and using language," said Mr. Roy.

The second part of the event was a poster-making competition among the students of Computer Science and Engineering. Almost 9 groups were registered and the judges' panel composed of Dr. Dipankar Bhattacharya, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Susanta Kumar Mondal, and Academic Associate Mrs. Dipshikha Dutta took a while before declaring the results. Dr. Bhattacharya said, "You must know how to sell your products and ideas. That is as important as the creation."

The result declared Srija Bhattacharjee, Anasuya Mitra, and Devjit Ghosh of 1st year, CSE department as winners whose poster implied the making of a healthy planet with the help of engineering.
