Workshop on 'Strategies to Improve Research and Innovation' discusses the importance of patenting, publications and research in higher education

On 8th August, the second day of the Faculty Induction Program (FIP), a workshop on 'Strategies to Improve Research and Innovation' was organised in collaboration with the Institutions' Innovation Council (IIC) was conducted. Dr. Dipankar Bhattacharyay, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Brainware University, conducted the session. Dr. Suman Majumder, Director of Projects, Brainware University and Dr. Sushanta Mondal, Director, IQAC, Brainware University, also addressed the gathering. The event was coordinated by Anandita Das, Assistant Registrar.

While addressing the audience, Dr. Bhattacharyay simply highlighted why patenting is important for a higher education institution. He also encouraged the faculty members to publish more articles in SCI/Scopus journals.

Research and innovation are the pillars of an educational institution. Brainware University is determined to make a mark in this field. One of the advantages of the university is that it has a team of mostly young, energetic and dynamic faculty members. In this regard, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor advised the faculty members to keep an open mind so that it will help them to come up with multi-disciplinary ideas.

The main of the university is to increase the number of publications and patents and for that every support will be provided to the faculty members from the research team. Dr. Bhattacharyay also explained the processes of patents and copyrights and how can one move ahead in these processes.

Following his address, Dr. Suman Majumder focused on the need to bridge the gap between industry and academia which will be a reality with continuous efforts from the faculty members. He also highlighted that failure is inevitability while trying something new, however, if one keeps in mind the 3Cs (Curiosity, Courage and Creativity) then innovation is not a difficult task.

With a dedicated focus in research and development, Brainware University is looking forward to emerge as one of the best private Universities in West Bengal.
