Citizen Journalism in the Digital Age

The Department of Media Science and Journalism, Brainware University organised an international webinar on April 2,2022, in collaboration with Chaoyang University of Technology, Taichung, Taiwan on 'Citizen Journalism in the Digital Age'. Radovan Skultety, Professor, Chaoyang University of Technology, Taichung, Taiwan and Dipanjan Sinha, independent journalist based out of Kolkata were the speakers at the programme. The event was attended by the students of both the universities.

While discussing about citizen journalism, Sinha pointed out the democratisation of news in this digital age which has blurred the line between professional journalism and citizen journalism. He also noted that the future of citizen journalism lies in collaboration with media houses as both are here to stay. Taking cue from Sinha's discussion, Professor Radovan Skultety spoke about the media scenario in Taiwan. He informed about the open internet platform for citizen journalists - PeoPo. The students enjoyed the enlightening session which was followed by a question-answer segment.
