Creating successful entrepreneurs

Universities have become major springboards for startup launches and innovation. To encourage startups and help guide our student entrepreneurs the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Brainware University organised a Workshop on Orientation Session on National Innovation and Startup Policy on December 31, 2020 at 3.00 PM. Dr Shivnath Ghosh (Associate Professor & IIC President) was the guest speaker for the session.

The aim of the workshop was to introduce the basic framework of the National Innovation and Startup Policy and its importance for faculty and students to help kick-start their entrepreneurial projects.

At the start, Dr Ghosh recommended students to perform a self-reflection exercise to pinpoint their major goals. “Take a minute and think about your mission in life and frame it in a sentence. This is going to be your North Star in all life projects,” he advised.

The next step towards innovation is to seek mentors and collect enough capital to start the project. The Business Incubation Centres offer complete guidance to students regarding entrepreneurship and hence serve as fantastic resources for first-generation entrepreneurs. “Approach an incubation centre and they will help you formulate, test, apply for patents and even give you grants to help set up your business. There is no additional consultation fee,” he informed the students.

NISP is an attempt by the government to “create a lively startup ecosystem in universities and it is in your best interest to make use of the funds,” he advised. NISP framework is already in place at most institutions. The session ended with Dr. Ghosh urged students to get in touch with the IIC and start working on their plans.
