Dr. Arindam Roy, Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and Dr. Sumit Roy, Associate Director at the World Wide Fund for Nature led enthralling sessions where students were enlightened about the impact single use plastics have on the environment, especially in the domain of agriculture.
Over 130 students participated in what was a very lively, interactive session. "It was a very important session for the students as they learned about a pressing issue which needs immediate attention from all quarters," says Dr. Paul. More than 95% of participants reported experiencing the webinar as informative and enjoyable. Plastics and their impact on the environment have become a talking point at all major international summits, and with the proposed classification of the current geopolitical age as the Anthropocene by Krutzen in 2000, the impact of post-Industrial human civilization on the history of the planet demands renewed attention. In keeping with the celebrations of 75 years of India's Independence under the theme 'Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the use of single-use plastics has been identified as a major point of concern by the Indian Government and Brainware University is proud to have organized a programme on this major issue facing future and present generations.
