National Press Day witnessed Zine Fest organised by the Media Science and Journalism department

There could not have been a better way to celebrate National Press Day! An exhibition of photographs, posters, and zines attracted huge crowds in the campus. The Department of Media Science and Journalism chose National press day, i.e, November 16, to organise 'Crescendo - The Zine Fest'.

A zine is most commonly a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts and images. Basically, they are self-published unique works of minority interest, usually reproduced through a photocopier. The Media Science and Journalism produced interesting zines on a wide array of pertinent topics and trivia including ‘Beauty Doesn’t Have Any Weight Limit’; ‘Digital Detox’; ‘The Rape Culture’; ‘The World of Ray’; 'Placed to visit in West Bengal' and more!

A photography and poster competition also took place, and they were exhibited in the university campus. "One of the unique features of this zine fest was that artworks were produced on used papers. Our students wanted to promote the importance of recycling through this gesture," said Dr. Shatabdi Som, HOD, Department of Media Science and Journalism.

One of the major attractions at the Zine Fest was the 'Rap Jam' session! Students from various departments stepped into their 'Gully Boy' shoes and expressed their voices in rap music.

The students and the faculty members of the Department of Media Science and Journalism were elated with this unique event to voice their thoughts on National Press Day! The vibrant ambience in and around the campus was a perfect setting for the fest!
