Right to Privacy: LLM student explores the issue of data protection in his paper!

The world has grown very data-centric. But is our data protected?

A nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar, ruled in 2017, that the Right to Privacy is a fundamental right for Indian citizens under the Constitution of India. Thus, no legislation passed by the government can unduly violate it.

Privacy is the protection from possible abuses of personal information or searches by the state, while Data Protection is the tool the law uses to make sure that an individual is protected from abuse of his personal information by another individual.

It gives us immense pride when we see our students involved with these issues and trying to do their part. Recently, LLM student Subham Chatterjee's article 'Data Protection Vis-a-Vis Right to Privacy in India' has been published in Law Journal Vol. I Issue I (2023) of IILM University, Gurgaon.
