“Health is not valued until sickness comes.” – Thomas Fuller
Timely health checkup is not a luxury but an absolute necessity. One must note that health checkups are not designed only to detect medical issues but also to identify risk factors and illnesses before they start to cause problems. Health check-ups aim to not only help the person prevent illnesses and their complications but also to make changes in the lifestyle for a long-term healthy life.
On May 26, 2023, the Department of Hospital Management in collaboration with Narayana Multispecialty Hospital organised a 'Health Checkup Camp' for the students, staff, and faculty members of the university. The activities in the health camp included doctor's consultations, random blood sugar testing, blood pressure measuring, etc. As per the recommendations of the doctors, ECG and Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT) were also carried out on some patients.
This health camp provided hands-on training to the Hospital Management and Allied Health Science students. This has always also been an educative experience as by observing and interacting with the healthcare professionals, various queries of the students were resolved.
People who go for check-ups occasionally attract diseases more than people who go for check-ups every year, as per a report by Manipal Hospitals. This happens because more than 80% of people do not follow a healthy lifestyle and going for regular check-ups makes people more aware of health, current lifestyle, and also about what should be followed in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
