2-day National Conference on 'Transforming Pharmacy Education as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for Holistic Development'

There was a huge crowd of eminent academicians, industry professionals, research scholars, students and faculty members from various colleges of West Bengal at the national conference on 'Transforming Pharmacy Education as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for Holistic Development' organised by the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of Brainware University in collaboration with Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), West Bengal State Branch.
Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhyay was present at the conference. He presented his book of digital artwork titled 'Creative Contours' to Prof. G. D. Sharma, President, Association of Indian, Universities & Vice Chancellor, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya who was also the Chief Guest.
Several eminent academicians and industry professionals including Dr. Mihir Kar, Vice President Eastern Region, Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) & Assistant Professor, Sri Jayadev College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Naharkanta Bhubaneswar; Prof. Milind Janrao Umekar, Chief Speaker, President-APTI, Principal & Professor, Smt. Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy, Maharashtra; Dr. Deependra Singh, Chairman, Education Regulatory Committee, Pharmacy Council of India & Assistant Professor, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and others were present at the conference.
While addressing the audience, Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhyay remarked that the suggestions of these eminent personalities will certainly be a driving force for our university to ensure quality teaching to the 15000+ students at the university. "With the implementation of NEP 2020, there has been a shift from programme-based curriculum to course-based curriculum making education flexible to the students," said Prof. GD Sharma in his keynote address. "Pharmaceutical Sciences have a lot of scope in this country. The application of the knowledge in the industry is ann essential need where there was a gap earlier," he added.
In his speech, Dr. Kar raised this fundamental question - "How does NEP affect education?" "Policymakers expect something from the regulators and the regulators expect that from the teachers in turn," he remarked.
Apart from the sessions by eminent academicians and industry experts, students from several colleges of West Bengal participated in the paper and poster presentations.

With the objective of upskilling the paramedical students, the Department of Allied Health Sciences in collaboration with Hamilton Medical organised a 2-day 'Hands-on Training on Optimizing Patient Outcomes: Principles and Practices of Mechanical Ventilation'.
Mechanical Ventilation plays a crucial role in supporting patients with respiratory failure. This workshop was conducted by skilled industry professionals that provided healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other allied health personnels, with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, and advancements in mechanical ventilation.

Brainware University is always focused to ensure a strong industry-institute interface. The industry collaborations and linkages ensure a smooth campus-to-corporate journey to the students. Recently, a team of officials from Disha Eye Hospitals represented by Bidula Das, Sayanika Das and Satabdi Pachal visited Brainware University.
This campus visit involved a detailed tour of the campus followed by an interaction with the faculty members from the Department of Allied Health Sciences. The officials also visited the fully equipped Optometry lab at the Department of Allied Health Sciences. The labs at Brainware University are equipped with the latest technology and modern equipment that enhance the industry skills of the students.
The focus of Brainware University is to transform the students into 'skilled graduates' and to ensure this, the institute establishes a strong industry-institute interface, student upskilling programmes, state-of-the-art laboratories, a dynamic learning experience etc.

Supreme Court Advocate conducts a session on ‘Right to Education and Digital Transformation' at an IIC Seminar

'Right to Education' as prescribed by the Article 21A of the Indian Constitution describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India. "This law was passed in the legislature with the objective of putting a check to the dropouts of school students, especially from the down-trodden section," said Reshmi Rea Sinha, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India while addressing the students at a seminar on 'Right to Education and Digital Transformation in Intellectual Property'.
The seminar was organised by IIC in collaboration with the Department of Law. While highlighting the 'Right to Education', Sinha also pointed out why placing this 'right' under Fundamental Rights was a necessity. Another thing that has become a point of discussion after the COVID-19 pandemic is digital education and how it has transformed the education scenario.
The session has been an enriching one for the budding lawyers as the discussion left several areas to think over the fundamental rights and their execution.

Data has evolved as an essential resource of an intelligent business, used for everything from daily operations to developing long-term plans. The sophistication of the technology has invited various threats and at the same time innovators are coming up with certain technologies to put in check the cyber threat!
IIC in collaboration with the Department of Cyber Science and Technology organised a workshop on 'InnoSecure: Exploring Entrepreneurship and Cyber Security Trends'. In the course of this workshop, the speakers Krishnendu Ghosh, Head IT, Internal Security and Compliance, Vehere; Arindam Haldar, CEO, Rootnik Lab and Indranil Das, CEO, Neuralectra highlighted the areas in cyber security that can be explored.

Starting something New, Starting Something Innovative: Sristi Agro Biotech Technical Director talks on 'Entreprenovation' at an IIC Seminar

The field of biotechnology is an inter-disciplinary one providing a lot of scope. India’s indigenous biotechnology sector has risen swiftly in current years, with the country’s biopharmaceuticals industry leading the charge.
Snehasis Koley, Technical Director, Sristi Agro Biotech was present at Brainware University to address a seminar on 'Entreprenovation: An amalgamation of Innovation and Entrepreneurship' organised by IIC in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology.
Koley gave a short introduction of his company and the kind of activities it is involved with following which he interacted with the students regarding their goals, their job opportunities in the field of Biotechnology and research prospects. Koley also shared useful tips on how to go ahead if one aspires to initiate his or her own startup and the areas they can work upon.
This was certainly an enriching experience for the students.

Multimedia students having a gala time on 'World Photography Day'

On World Photography Day, the Multimedia students had a gala time understanding the essence of photography. Apart from that the students also had the opportunity to capture the world from a different perspective with the drone workshop.
Anoop Guha, Brand Ambassador and Mentor, Fujifilm India conducted an insightful session where he discussed the composition of a photograph. "A frame tells a story," he emphasised time and again! The perfect moment of capturing a photo - the observation and anticipation - the traits required were made clear to the students.
Another session that took place outdoors with drone pilot and cinematographer Prabhat Mahanto highlighted the usage of drones, their requirements and operations.
Indeed, this was a different way of celebrating 'World Photography Day'. With more of these sessions with the industry experts in the upcoming days, we look forward to transform our students into 'skilled graduates' making them industry-ready.

With the objective of transforming students into 'skilled graduates', IIC in collaboration with the Department of Computational Science organised a seminar on 'Entrepreneurship to increase employability index - Continuous Learning and Upskilling' with Rohit Khanna, Assistant Editor, The Times of India.
In this insightful session, the students learnt about the industry scenario and the qualities they need to upskill themselves in order to fit into the industry.

'Why is Linux considered as the future of technology?" Tuhin Sinha, Founder and CEO, AEM Technologies asked this question while addressing the students from the Department of Cyber Science and Technology at Brainware University.
Sinha who is also a licensed RedHat architect, was present in the campus of Brainware University to conduct a seminar on 'Modern Trends in Linux Administration'. He was connected online with Ramesh Padmanabhan, Director, Red Hat GLS India & SAARC and Savitha Bhat, Partner Sales Manager, Red Hat India online.
The main objective of this session was to equip the learners with cutting-edge technology, knowledge and skills.

The sprawling green campus of Brainware University is a ragging-free campus. The anti-ragging week was observed in the university from August 12 to August 18. The accelerating pace of change emphasises the importance of upskilling. Tarak Kansabanik, Assistant Director, Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises spoke about the importance of continuous learning and upskilling while interacting with the students at a seminar on 'Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights: Continuous Learning and Upskilling'. The seminar was organised by Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Department of Computational Sciences.

A discussion for those who do not wish to pursue a job after college; what option does Company Secretary Amitava Guha Sarkar has for them?

When Amitava Guha Sarkar, Company Secretary and Fellow, Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) asked the students what they will do after college - some said that they wished to pursue jobs while the others opted for Higher Education. In the crowd there were some who expressed their hesitation in pursuing a job. "The topic of discussion today is for those who do not wish to pursue job!" remarked Sarkar.
Sarkar is also associated with the Department of Law at Brainware University as a Professor of Practice. "Startup is the career option for those who do not wish to get involved with a job," said Sarkar. "Startup is not just another business unit. It is a business being set up by some young people using innovative ideas with the help of modern technologies," he explained.
Citing the examples of IITs and IIMs. Sarkar highlighted the role to be played by higher education institutions in building and supporting startups.

Petridish to Profit: Unleashing the Biotech Entrepreneur: An exhilarating PANEL DISCUSSION was organised by IIC in collaboration with the departments of Biotechnology, AHS and C2C

Esteemed dignitaries including Debashish Datta, CEO, Kolkata Biotech Park; Dibyendu Sarkar, MD, EcoVocal Solutions and Dr. Amit Das, CSO, Smart Farming India highlighted on the fact that post-pandemic biotech sector is swiftly advancing. Dr. Dutta emphasised, "In the upcoming decade, the realm of biotech is going to emerge as the largest employment provider."
While interacting with the students, diverse research and entrepreneurial aspirations surfaced ranging from working on rare genetic disorders, genetic engineering to biomaterials. While Dr. Dutta pointed out that India's standing on the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index (GEDI) stands between 70-75, he anticipates the figure to rise further with the burgeoning biotech industry, professing his faith in the students saying “you are the pillar of education”.

Brainware University's Multimedia Department, in collaboration with IIC, orchestrated a seminar delving into the 'Relevance of Design in Entrepreneurship and Corporate & Women Entrepreneurship.' The event featured Sourav Sarkar, Senior Marketing Manager, Reliance Retail (Eastern zone), who eloquently defined design as "your distinct identity, setting you apart from the crowd."
Sarkar highlighted the influence of forced ad content during screen time, averaging 16 to 19 minutes per hour. He underscored the critical role of design as a multifaceted cornerstone for effective communication, directly impacting brand value, market retention, and consumer engagement.
During interactions with students, Sarkar encouraged: “If you feel like you can succeed, you will” underlining the power of mindset. The session also explored diverse career avenues within the corporate sector for multimedia students, fostering insightful discussions with Brainware's aspiring young minds.

Thousands of ideas make a crowd in the minds of the young people. They are full of innovations and new ideas! They embrace new technologies, welcome change, and take the society forward.
To provide the opportunity to the students to showcase their talents, the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Department of Computational Science and Tech Club organised 'TechGenesis' that consisted of an innovative model exhibition and innovative idea presentation.
Dr. Subhro Ghoshal, Associate Professor, Acharya Prafulla Chandra College was the Chief Guest at the event.

Brainware University fosters an environment for grooming and mentoring future sportsmen. A number of sporting events took place in the campus on the occasion of 'National Sports Day' that included chess competition, athletics and others.
The students also made posters to make the people aware of the importance of sports in the personality development of an individual.

While interacting with the students from the Department of Psychology, Aritra Chatterjee, Clinical Psychologist looked at gender from multiple perspectives, not only through the LGBTQ+ lens. "Gender is associated with class, caste, belonging etc.," she said. With the aim of generating an awareness on gender sensitivity, Chatterjee started from the basics where she clarified the distinction between 'sex' and 'gender'. She was present to address the students at a seminar on 'Gender Sensitivity' organised by the Department of Psychology.
Academic Researcher and social worker Bonnya Kar who is also a poestess and vocal artist was also a speaker at the seminar. She shared several anecdotes from her childhood that highlighted how she felt trapped being a woman trapped in a man's body. The two different spectrums - gender and sexuality - were highlighted clearly by the speakers, making it clear to the audience. The speakers also focused on the need of a safe and secure campus so that an individual has the opportunity to explore their gender identity.
This was indeed a thought-provoking session for the students as well as the faculty members.

College life prepares an individual to face future challenges and what can be better for the students if they can hear from a person who has surmounted several odds!
Record-breaking Mountaineer Piyali Basak was present to interact with the students from the Department of Media Science and Journalism at a session on 'Surmounting Odds'. The session was coordinated by Sudipta Bhattacharjee, Adjunct Professor, Department of Media Science and Journalism.
Basak recounted her exciting mountaineering experience with the students. Also, the students got to relive the glorious moments of Basak by means of the video footages which were shown to them. She recalled her childhood days when she and her family had to struggle to pursue this uncommon sport.

The 77th Independence Day was celebrated with much pomp and grandeur at Brainware University. The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Institute of Nursing organised a number of events to celebrate the Indian independence.
The celebrations started with with a fascinating poster-making competition. The glorious past and the promise of another glorious future with the innovators of the nation was the focal point of the posters. The Independence Day celebrations started with a spectacular cultural programme where the students showcased their talents in performance arts. The theme for the competition was 'Innovators' Contributions and their Role in Nation Building'.
On August 15, 2023, the 77th Independence Day with a spectacular cultural programme followed by the hoisting of the national flag. It was indeed a moment of immense pride for the students and officials of the university as they performed in the open arena with the tri-colour flying high. 15th August serves as a powerful reminder of the nation's liberation from British colonial rule after nearly two centuries. to all the citizens of the country. From 1947, we have come a long way and the future of the country rests in the hands of her young citizens. Brainware University focuses on the holistic development of the students so that they can transform into skilled drivers of the future society and take the country forward in the fields of science, technology, medical science, art, literature and more.
Furthermore, a quiz competition and unveiling of the wall magazine on the occasion of Independence Day took place. The students showcased their artistic skills to add colours to the celebration of Independence.

On World Entrepreneurship Day, the Founder and Executive Chairman of SastaSundar B.L.Mittal spent time with the Management students at Brainware University and he was very impressed to hear the various startup ideas from the students - varying from EdTech to Healthcare. Mittal made the students believe that their time will come or as the interactive session was called 'Apna Time Ayega', a practical workshop on how to build a startup. "The job of an entrepreneur is to give capital more compounding," Mittal clarified the job role of an entrepreneur at the session!
Hon'ble Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhayay also interacted with Mr. B.L.Mittal on this occasion where he shared his ideas on entrepreneurship. Chancellor Sir also presented his book on digital paintings 'Creative Contours' to Mittal!
Mr. Mittal got the students involved in a series of interesting activities to highlight the different steps of building a startup. "Entrepreneurship is a mindset and this mindset will never leave you," said Mr. Mittal. Highlighting the basics of entrepreneurship, he suggested, "In entrepreneurship, knowing the next step, knowing the gap is very important!"
"Remember, all the big companies were not built with a fresh idea but they grew by coping up with the ideas," he added.

The students of Brainware University always fondly embrace their social responsibilities. In a recent outreach activity, the students and faculty members of Optometry at The Tree House, a kindergarten school in Shibpur, Howrah.
The Optometry students from Brainware University performed a vision screening for the children at the kindergarten school. This early diagnosis helped in the detection of any existing difficulties in the vision of these children. Furthermore, this hands-on training activity also provided the Optometry students an exposure to patient handling.

In a recent outreach activity, the students from the Department of Media Science and Journalism spent a day with the students of Faldi High School.
The present age is an age of technological advancement. Social media is one of the most attractive mediums for the young generation. However, there is a huge responsibility on the user of technology regarding its usage. While interacting with the Faldi High School students, the Media Science students stressed on the responsible usage of technology. At the same time, emerging trends in digital content creation were also made understandable to the students.

Learning can never be restricted within the four walls of the classroom, a walk with the camera enables you to interact with the characters, the novelties and the oddities of the street; experiencing the art of making still and moving images of the fleeting mundane chores. The students from the Department of Media Science and Journalism celebrated 'World Photography Day' in the lanes of potters' hub, walking by ghats of the Ganges, experiencing the monsoon, the autumn wind, and the dusk.

Field practical training session for the students from the Department of Agriculture. The 5th semester students were involved in bund preparation and fertilizer application for rice transplantation.
On the other hand, the 1st semester students were involved in raising seedlings of cauliflowers in plug tray using Coco-peat under protected structure which ensuring quality seedling for transplanting in the main field.
The 'Farmland for Agri-Research and Innovation' of Brainware University boasts of an in-house crop cafeteria that provides extensive practical training sessions enhancing the employability skills of the students.

Our heartiest congratulations to Md. Toufik Islam Sipai, an Operation Theatre Technology student from the Department of Allied Health Sciences for winning the Gold Medal at the 'Open State Kickboxing Championship' organised by Konnagar Kickboxing Academy held on August 20, 2023.
Well, this is not the first time Toufik won a championship. He also won the Gold Medal at the '1st JKS Shotokan-Ryu Shoto Cup Karate Championship' held in the month of June this year.

Proscenium, the drama club of Brainware University is back with a bang! This time the group of students set up a heart-wrenching performance about the consequences of ragging in their one-act play 'Death of a Dream'.
Indeed, ragging has murdered numerous dreams and every year at the onset of new academic sessions, the freshers often face bullying from their seniors across the college campuses. With their touching story-telling and marvellous performances, the students of Brainware University brought to life the situation faced by hundreds of college freshers every year.

Psychology students discuss the importance of rehabilitation Psychology in case of spinal cord injury in a published paper!

In Asia, the spinal cord injury is one of the most common health issues. Our students from the Department of Psychology explored the multidimensional consequences of this health hazard. A paper titled 'Psychosocial Aspects of Spinal Cord Injury: A Review' is published in the journal 'Disabilities and Impairments: Volume 37 (1) 2023' where the students attempted to summarise the relevant factors contributing for the development of spinal injury. Additionally, it discusses the importance of rehabilitation Psychology in handling such patients.
