Assistant Innovation Director Dipan Sahu shared useful insights on entrepreneurship on World Entrepreneurs' Day

Faculty Development Programme on Emerging Trends in Humanities and Social Sciences

Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Jack Ma, all started with small steps but are successful entrepreneurs today. On the occasion of World Entrepreneurs' Day, Brainware University organised an event to motivate its students to become job creators rather than job-seekers. The event was organised by the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Department of Management and Commerce on 20th August from 10 a.m onwards. Dipan Sahu, Assistant Innovation Director, Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell was the Chief Guest at the event and Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy, Chairman, AYUSH National Task Force (ASSOCHAM) and MD, Powell Group was the Guest of Honour.
Phalguni Mookhopadhayay, Chancellor, Brainware University extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests. He recounted how he came up with the idea of 'Brainware' and started to go forward with his entrepreneurial venture though he was very successful as a Management Trainee with Hindustan Lever and as a Market Planner with the ABP Group.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy said, "Entrepreneurship needs broad shoulders." He pointed out that bright minds come up with innovations but at the same time an entrepreneur has to be responsible and will have to will take the change forward by adding values to society.
Dipan Sahu referred to the fact that the word 'crisis' is denoted by two letters in the Chinese alphabet. The 1st letter signifies 'danger' and the second letter suggests 'opportunity'. Sahu motivated the young Management students to see these two things at the same time. He emphasised the importance of higher education institutions for the advancement of Science and technology that will pave the way for innovation.
The event was a thought-provoking experience for the teachers as well as the students will tend to approach the professional world from a different perspective.

2nd National Conference on Biotechnology and One Health

With eyes full of dreams and hearts full of hopes, the 1st year students set out for their journey at Brainware University on 17th August. The university not only provides the platform to build the best careers but also plays a silent witness to millions of memories, friendships and various other activities.
"I am a little worried today but looking forward to meeting my teachers and making new friends here," said a Media Science student.
A student from Tripura was having a nice time with her group of friends at the food court. "Leaving home for college was really difficult but I am liking the campus life already. The seniors are very cooperative," she said.
We welcome all the 1st year students! We are going to have a remarkable journey together!

Webinar on Emerging Trends in Literary Studies-Digital Humanities

To enlighten the students about the industry scenario, the Department of Hospital Management organised a workshop on 'Importance of Leadership in Healthcare Management' on 12th August. Dr. Kuntal Banerjee, Medical Superintendent, Spandan Advance Medicare, was the speaker at the event.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Banerjee highlighted the fact that leadership and managerial skills are not the same. He pointed out the differences between leadership and management. "One of the main qualities of leadership is to develop a vision and then design strategies to achieve that vision," he added.


Ensuring quality in Hospital Management; Jayeeta Sen Das discusses at workshop

Webinar on An IoT Based Smart Entrance Systems

The Department of Hospital Management organised a workshop on 'Quality management system in present healthcare' on 13th August 2022, conducted by Jayeeta Sen Das, Deputy Manager, Quality Assurance, Narayana Health, Howrah, West Bengal.
Das pointed out the current scenario of Hospital Management in India to the audience that consisted of BBA and MBA students. To improve the condition and satisfaction of patients, ensuring quality and safe healthcare is of utmost importance. At the workshop, the areas of hospital management that need upgradation were pointed out.


Workshop on 'Hospital Operations Management and Quality of Healthcare' discusses the roles and responsibilities of a hospital floor manager

Workshop on Innovation-Passion or Profession

Dibyendu Bhattacharjee, Manager of Operations, HLG Memorial Hospital, Asansol highlighted the roles and responsibilities in this sector to the BBA HM and MBA HM students at a workshop on 'Hospital Operations Management and Quality of Healthcare'. The event was organised by the Department of Hospital Management on August 16th.
While interacting with the students, Bhattacharjee in a very simple manner shared with them his professional experience - how to explain certain things to the patient, how to conduct patient counselling etc. Basically, a Floor Manager or a Manager of Operations at a hospital acts as the bridge between the hospital authority and the patient party.

BBA HM students attend workshop on 'Hospital Overview of Future Healthcare Leaders' 

Seminar on practicing Raj and Hath Yoga

The workshop on 'Hospital Overview of Future Healthcare Leaders' was an enriching experience for the BBA Hospital Management students. Debayan Chakraborty, Chief Executive Officer, SBH Group of Hospitals, Raipur, discussed what a Management professional should know about the healthcare sector.
Chakraborty made the session very interactive, the audience was pumped up at the very beginning when the speaker asked the students to clap their hands to motivate themselves. He further said that Brainware University is giving a great opportunity to him as well as the students by organising these workshops.

N. Shashidhar Reddy discusses quality management and accreditation process of the hospitals

Workshop on 'Psychological Skill Building' for Nursing students

N. Shashidhar Reddy, Quality Head, Fernandes Group of Hospital (Hyderabad) spoke about the quality management and accreditation process of the hospitals at a workshop organised by the Department of Hospital Management on 18th August.
While interacting with the audience, Reddy discussed how to improve the quality of services provided in a hospital & how to get accreditation for a hospital. The students got a details idea of quality management and its functioning in a hospital from the workshop. They understood the various aspects of the hospital quality department.

The Department of Hospital Management organised a workshop on 'Modern Trends in Supply Chain Management in Hospitals' on 19th August from 11 a.m onwards. Jayashree Hira, Territory Sales Manager, Stryker India, conducted the workshop.
Jayashree Hira also highlighted the fact that the upgradation of software is also an urgent requirement at hospitals to smoothly carry out the supply chain.

The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) organised a webinar on 'Innovation: The New Mantra' on August 19th. Dr. Sandip Kumar Lahiri, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Durgapur was the speaker at the event.
In the course of this interactive session, the speaker highlighted the importance of innovation for the advancement of technology. Furthermore, he highlighted the requirement for work-life balance to young professionals. 259 students participated in the event.

The Department of Pharmacy organised a seminar on 'Pharmaceutical Marketing and Supply chain Management' on 19th August from 4 a.m at UB-II Seminar Hall. Shantanu Shome, Former General Manager of Pfizer HealthCare India, was the guest speaker at the event.
While addressing the audience comprising of the B.Pharm and D.Pharm students as well as the faculty members, Shome highlighted the basic concepts of supply chain management. He emphasised the importance of this process and explained that ultimately this entire process of supply chain management helps in improving the service.
Mr. Shome who is a veteran in the Pharmacy industry shared the application of supply chain management in the Pharmacy industry. He stated that from the manufacturing of the products to reaching out to the patients - Pharmaceutical marketing focuses on this entire resource management.

Dr. Abhiram Hens, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur was the speaker at a webinar on 'Microfluidic Devices and their Applications'. The webinar was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 20th August from 3 p.m to 5 p.m.
In this context, one must note that microfluidics is the study of systems that can process small quantities of fluids by using tiny channels having dimensions at the microscale – typically tens to hundreds of micrometres. Although in the nascent stage, microfluidics is rapidly emerging as a breakthrough technology that finds applications in diverse fields ranging from biology and chemistry to information technology and optics.

Art of literary criticism: Webinar on 'Revenge Tragedy’

To let students know about the art of literary criticism, a webinar on the topic of 'Revenge Tragedy: New Critical Perspectives' has been organised by the Department of English and Literary Studies, Brainware University. The guest speaker for this webinar was Dr. Piyali Sircar, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Rammohan College. The event was held from 3 pm to 5 pm on August 20, 2022.
Sircar offered some of the highlights from the canonical text which the speaker described as “a tragedy of moral consciousness”. The perpetual inefficacy of the human predicament has helped conceptualize tragedy in The Duchess of Malfi.

Arnab Smritidi Raha, Chief Operating Officer (COO), HCG ECO Cancer Centre, Kolkata, while speaking with the BBA Hospital Management students pointed out that BBA HM is a choice of evergreen profession. Raha was speaking at a seminar on the 'Role of Hospital Administrator in Present and Future Delivery Modes' organised by the Department of Hospital Management on 23rd August.
Raha highlighted the changing scenario of the healthcare sector in the next 3-5 years due to the pandemic. "Overall healthcare is changing as the profile and patterns of diseases are changing," he added. He also emphasised the importance of the diagnostic industry as the laboratory industry has come into being. Furthermore, the demand is getting influenced by many other factors.

Supriya Chakraborty, Assistant General Manager, Human Resource and Training discussed the role of the BBA graduates in the hospitals while speaking at a seminar on 'Opportunities as BBA in Hospital Management and Survival Strategy in WorkPlace', organised by the Department of Hospital Management on 23rd August.
Chakraborty made the session interactive and while talking to the students, she highlighted the responsibilities of a Hospital Management graduate. She also shared her own experience as a skilled professional in this sector.

"The acquiring and distributing of resources in healthcare is healthcare economics," explained Dr. Indranil Mitra, Consultant-in-Charge (Emergency), Ruby General Hospital, while interacting with the BBA Hospital Management students. at a workshop on 'Introduction to Healthcare Economics' held on 24th August. Dr. Mitra pointed out that s healthcare professionals, the Management graduates need to identify the scarcity in healthcare distribution. Now, this scarcity has to be dealt with in order to meet a particular conclusion.
It was truly an enriching session for the students as they got to hear about the experience and knowledge from a veteran industry insider.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) organised a workshop on 'ERP System - BPCS' on 24th August from 1 p.m onwards. Ravishankar Dhawalkar, Technical Lead, Cognizant was the speaker at the session.
The students greatly benefitted from attending the session as they got to know about ethical hacking and cyber threats. The main aim of the workshop was to give provide the young technocrats with a basic knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
In this context, the students must know ERP is a type of software system that helps organisations automate and manage core business processes for optimal performance.

National Librarians' Day celebrated with a quiz competition on 'Literature Review and Research Ethics'

National Librarians' Day is celebrated on the 12th of August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. The Department of Pharmaceutical Technology in collaboration with the Central Library uniquely celebrated this day by organising a seminar and a quiz competition on 'Literature Review and Research Ethics'.
Dr. Dipankar Bhattacharyay, Pro VC, Dr. B.B.Barik, HOD, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Bandana Basu, Librarian were present at the event.

BBA and MBA in Hospital Management are very popular among students. One can have a bright career by pursuing these disciplines. The Department of Hospital Management organised an interactive masterclass with Raj Bhattacharya, President- Project, Strategy & Operations, The Mission Hospital, Durgapur, on 27th August 2022.
With an industry experience of around 25 years, Bhattacharya has hands-on knowledge to create and grow businesses from scratch. In an interactive manner, he shared his experience with the students which will come in handy for them when they go out in their professional fields.
While conversing with the students, Bhattacharya was trying to understand the motivation of the students behind opting Hospital Management.
The knowledge of the industry is of utmost importance for the students as this will help them to adapt themselves as per the requirements of the industry. The discussion about the transformation of healthcare greatly helped the students.
Bhattacharya thanked the university and the students for their response.

The Department of Hospital Management organised a workshop on 'Organisation of Healthcare in India and the Changing Role of Virtual Healthcare' on 29th August. Dr. Sudeshna Ganguly, Medical Director (India and Indian Sub-continent), Teladoc Healthcare International, Kolkata, conducted the session and BBA HM students attended the session.
Dr. Ganguly offered a historical perspective of Indian healthcare and highlighted India's performance in key areas. She also discussed the benefits and challenges of Indian healthcare. While interacting with the audience, Dr. Ganguly highlighted the traditional systems of medicine in India - Sidha, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Yoga and Naturopathy. At present, the government is trying to combine these 6 so that it can benefit the people.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) organised an online workshop on ‘Software Development (Full Stack Development)’. Preetam Dev Pandey, Developer, TCS discussed the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the real world. During the interactive session, the students got the chance to solve their queries in this field. The industry insights are going to be highly useful for the students.

We are unstoppable: Brainware University awarded Zee 24 Ghanta Education Excellence Award 2022 in Curriculum and Placement

A 2-day Faculty Development Program (FIP) to introduce the newly-joined faculty members of Brainware University started on 6th August.
While addressing the audience at the event, Chancellor Phalguni Mookhopadhayay fondly recollected the initial days of Brainware when it was a computer training centre in the 1990s and he was determined to do something of his own. However, he was struggling to find students to provide computer training in a 10X10 room in south Calcutta.
Since then, it has been a long journey and Brainware has crossed 32 long years to emerge as one of the most trusted names in the field of academia in West Bengal. Brainware University started its journey in 2016 and is committed to shape the young minds for a better future.
Mahua Pal, Registrar, Brainware University extended a hearty welcome to the new members of the Brainware family. She also highlighted the aim of Brainware to become the top private university in West Bengal. To achieve the goal, the existing and new faculty members must cooperate to impart quality teaching to the students.
Dr. Bhattacharyay, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) in his welcome address highlighted the importance of working in a team. He further added, "We must learn from each other and grow together!" "When our hands multiply, we can do a lot of things," he pointed out.
A motivational video about the journey of Brainware, from its inception to the present day, was shown to the audience, following which the new faculty members came up on stage to introduce themselves with their respective HODs.
FIP is important so that the new entrants are accustomed to the structure and functioning of an organisation and help them to explore pedagogical processes including instructional planning, teaching methods, classroom management, etc.

Workshop on 'Strategies to Improve Research and Innovation' discusses the importance of patenting, publications and research in higher education

Research and innovation are the pillars of an educational institution. Brainware University is determined to make a mark in this field. One of the advantages of the university is that it has a team of mostly young, energetic and dynamic faculty members. In this regard, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor advised the faculty members to keep an open mind so that it will help them to come up with multi-disciplinary ideas.
On 8th August, the second day of the Faculty Induction Program (FIP), a workshop on 'Strategies to Improve Research and Innovation' was organised in collaboration with the Institutions' Innovation Council (IIC) was conducted. Dr. Dipankar Bhattacharyay, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).
While addressing the audience, Dr. Bhattacharyay simply highlighted why patenting is important for a higher education institution. He also encouraged the faculty members to publish more articles in SCI/Scopus journals.
Following his address, Dr. Suman Majumder focused on the need to bridge the gap between industry and academia which will be a reality with continuous efforts from the faculty members. He also highlighted that failure is inevitability while trying something new, however, if one keeps in mind the 3Cs (Curiosity, Courage and Creativity) then innovation is not a difficult task.
With a dedicated focon in research and development, Brainware University is looking forward emergingrge as one of the best private Universities in West Bengal.

75th Independence Day celebrated with a host of events

Brainware University organised a host of activities to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on the occasion of the 75th year of Indian independence.The tri-colour was hoisted on 15th August 2022 on the university campus in presence of the staff and students.
On 12th August, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with the Institute of Nursing organised ‘Millenial Thoughts’, a poster-making competition and an art and craft competition. A video on war memorials was shown to the students which invoked a sense of pride among the young students as worthy successors of this legacy. The students also shared their views on the concept of freedom and independence through fiery speeches following which the poster-making competition started. The themes for the art and craft competition were ‘Waste to Best’ and ‘Waste to Wealth’. The students put up several attractive displays on these themes.
On 11th August, Brainware University organised a ‘Plant A Tree - Save The Environment’, a plantation program. It was nice to see the young minds coming forward to express themselves and shared their views on the occasion of Independence Day which assured a better future ahead.

'Freedom through the lens': Students captured captivating moments for Photography Competition

Resounding Win: Brainware University students win Moot Court Competition 2022

"An image is formed in the head," said Nemai Ghosh at a seminar. The veteran still photographer who worked with Satyajit Ray recounted how there were no mobile phones, digital cameras etc. yet some of the best snaps were clicked by him. To encourage its students on the idea of capturing moments, the Department of Multimedia and Media Science and Journalism in collaboration with the Photo Frame Club observed the 183rd World Photography Day on 19th August 2022 to celebrate the incredible art and craft of photography.
The students of Brainware University participated in the photography competition on the theme ‘freedom through the lens’. Over a hundred students from different departments participated and submitted photographs which were digitally displayed.
Soumobroto Dey from the department of Multimedia secured the first position in the photography competition for the photograph titled ‘freedom is priceless'. The second position was jointly awarded to Debkanta Banerjee’s ‘wings of freedom’ of Media Science and Journalism and Saraiya Parveen’s ‘play and learn’ of Multimedia. The photograph ‘worker at rest’ by Somdutta Mukherjee from the department of Multimedia secured the third position.

Abanindranath Tagore, one of the pioneers of Indian art, was born on August 7, 1871. To commemorate the birth anniversary of this versatile artist, the Department of English and Literary Studies in collaboration with the Department of Multimedia organised an 'Illustration Competition' on 8th August.
The event was a great opportunity for the students to give shape to their imagination and a refreshing break from their academic curriculum. Furthermore, the competition provided ample scope to those who wished to pursue illustration as a career. Each illustration consisted of a short description on the theme of the painting. The first, second and third illustrations will receive awards after the decision. All the students will be awarded participation certificates.

To commemorate the 75th Independence Day, the Institute of Nursing, Brainware University organised 'Plant A Tree - Save The Environment', a plantation program. The event started with the inaugural song, Dhana Dhanya Pushpa Bhara. Natural resource is the backbone of a country, a civilisation. If we are not aware of threats of global warming and the greenhouse effect, human civilisation cease to exist.
With this small initiative, Brainware University attempts to add a new perspective for the benefit of society which is the ultimate aim of independence.

Gateway to Space Regional Remote Sensing Center-(ISRO) visit is a great experience for ECE students

The 'Gateway to Space' was an enriching experience for the students. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) organised a visit to Regional Remote Sensing Center- (ISRO), Kolkata on 23rd August.
In the beginning, the students were taken to a central building. In this place, they were shown a video – ‘Gateway to Space’ – on the ISRO, its history, and the current facilities available. S. Pathak, Deputy General Manager explained each display through a PPT presentation. It includes the models of the first Indian satellite Aryabhatta, APPLE, INSAT series etc. He also explained that satellites are basically of two types- Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellites and communication satellites. IRS-1A was the first remote sensing mission undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It was a part-operational, part-experimental mission to develop Indian expertise in satellite imagery.
The 'clean room' concept for assembling satellites was shown to the students. It was a great experience for the students. A video depicting the moon mission of ‘Chandrayaan’ was also displayed. Finally, the scientists answered the doubts and queries of the students in an interactive session.
The organization visit was a great benefit for the students to directly understand the various concepts of satellite and space missions done by ISRO. They got a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implications.

C2C cell organises a session with Anupam Das: Scope and prospects of Hospital Management

The Ministry of Education's (MoE) innovation Cell has reformed the YUKTI program which is now an integral part of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC). This initiative aims at building a system to the repository of ideas, innovations, and startups developed from academic institutions and nurturing them by offering continuous support in terms of one-to-one mentorship, grant assistance, referral and linkage with incubation units, connecting with Angel/Venture Capital (VC) investors network, etc.
Brainware University recently took part in an online session on YUKTI where Dipan Sahu, Asst. Innovation Director, Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell highlighted the aims and objectives of the initiative.

Hands-on training in optometry: Hospital visit in collaboration with Spectra Eye Hospital

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) cell of Brainware University participated at the IIC regional meet on 2nd August. Brainware University was represented by Mr. Jyotirishwar Kumar, ARIIA Coordinator of IIC, Brainware University and Dr. Sanjay Saha, President of IIC, Brainware University.
Brainware University was chosen to give the presentation on National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) at the knowledge-sharing session on NISP. Dr. Sanjay Saha gave the presentation.

Brainware University signs an MoU with Oracle India

Brainware University is always determined to provide industry exposure to its students so that they can be job-ready. The Department of Computational Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oracle India on 4th August to enhance the cloud computing skills of the BCA students.
