Celebration of “World Physiotherapy Day”

Preparing to transform healthcare

|
To celebrate and honour the contribution of physiotherapists in the healthcare industry, The Department of Allied Health Sciences, Brainware University on September 8, 2021 at 4 PM. In an attempt to make students aware of the endless opportunities in the job market, we invited renowned physiotherapist, Dr Aijaz Ashai, a global leader in the healthcare industry.
Dr. Ashai introduced students to various key areas in the field and how physiotherapy was fast becoming a great field for entrepreneurship as well. “As people are working out and being more health conscious, licensed physiotherapists are in high demand. We have health spas all over the country,” he said.
Dr. Ashai also informed students about the use of bioinformatics in the field and how robotic implements are transforming the industry. “With use of robotics, we can provide our patients better outcomes as they heal from injuries, diagnose their problems faster, and overall increase the quality of treatment,” he advised.
Inspired by the work of field leaders, the students presented posters on various topics such as ‘rehabilitation and role of physiotherapy in Covid-19’, ‘Robotics and physiotherapy’, and many others.
The final part of the session was an interactive one where students got a chance to ask their career related doubts. Dr. Ashai left the students motivated and prepared for the future as they train themselves to join the global community of physiotherapists.

For Dr. Pritesh Chakraborty( Assistant Professor, Acharya Sukumar Sen Mahavidyalaya), the guest speaker at the Online Workshop titled ‘Love What You Do: Careers in English Literature and Language’ organised by The Department of English and Literary Studies, Brainware University on September 30, 2021, a good career is one where passion meets development. Dr. Chakraborty introduced students to lesser known career pathways for English graduates and provided students a list of resources for finding job opportunities and even scholarships.

To understand how pandemic has affected marketing and how gradually the problem has been solved, Tijarat-The Marketing C-LAB of School of Management & Commerce, Brainware University organized a workshop on the topic – ‘Marketing Challenges and Resolution during Pandemic’ on September 30, 2021 from 4pm. Rashed Khan (General Manager Marketing of Yogotex Fabric LTD.) was the esteemed speaker for this workshop.The speaker spoke about the challenges faced and how they broadened their avenues to cope up with the situation. He also explained how digitization has helped them in many ways. This workshop helped the students to understand that how industries prioritized the perspectives of the customer and how they kept them afloat in this pandemic situation.

One-Week Online Workshop on “Business Analytics and Modeling by R and Spreadsheet”

Business Analytics is a field enjoying rapid development in today’s job market. To meet industry demands, analysts are incorporating a wide range of tools to streamline the process. The School of Management and Commerce, Brainware University organised a One-week Online Workshop on “Business Analytics and Modeling by R and Spreadsheet” from September 6, 2021 to September 10, 2021 to help familiarize participants with the latest market trends in the field of business analytics and help them choose the correct tools. Leading experts and scholars from India were invited as guests to help guide students.
The workshop started with Dr. Himanshu Gupta’s explanation of the way in which AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) and TOPOIS can be used in marketing research. The sessions continued on Day 2 with DEMATEL and Best Worst Method discussions.
Through the rest of the week eminent guests like Dr. Gautam Bandhopadhyay(Associate Professor, NIT Durgapur), Dr. Arijit Ghosh(Assistant Professor, St. Xaviers’ College), Dr. Anirban Sarkar(Assistant Professor, WBSU) introduced students to key tools and techniques in the field of business analytics like software R, Parametric and Non-parametric tests.
The Q&A sessions at the end of each speech allowed students to closely interact with the experts and learn about job opportunities in the field.

Quiz on Indian Currency

The Indian currency has a rich history that often remains unexplored. To make students aware of their history and encourage them to actively celebrate the past, the School of Management & Commerce, Brainware University in collaboration with the Central Library, Brainware University organised a special quiz on Indian Currency on September 22, 2021 at 3:30 PM. The event started with a brief introduction by Ms. Bandana Basu(Librarian, Brainware University) and Mr. Biplab Kumar Chandra(Assistant Librarian, Brainware University) who helped frame the cultural history of the Indian currency as a fascinating tale filled with intrigue and sacrifice. The questions were a good mix of historical facts and some niche fun questions on the lesser known facts. Sramana Paul, a participant remarked, “it was a really interesting competition. I got to learn but also developed my confidence each time I spoke up,” she said. Brainware University Central Library promises to organise more such informative sessions for students where they can educate themselves and others.

What is the latest thing in the world of photography? To make sure our future photographers are aware of the latest developments. The Department of Multimedia and PhotoFrame, Brainware University organized an Online Workshop in Travel Photography on September 11, 2021 from 5 PM. Renowned photographer, Mr. Argha Chatterjee(Lumix Mentor) explained to students how travel photography is a unique genre that mixes a sense of nostalgia with the fervent pace of modern life. Through pictures from his portfolio, Mr. Chatterjee explained to students about the job prospects in the field and skills that are most in demand. The workshop provided students an opportunity to closely interact with an industry insider and gain insights into the profession.

In an effort to provide students with a global career, the Department of Biotechnology, Brainware University organised a Workshop on Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for Joint Masters Degree Programme(EMJMD) on September 18, 2021 at 3 PM. The aim of the programme was to make students aware of the global opportunities available in the field of biotechnology research and the ways they can effectively make use of such opportunities to build a global career. Our guest speaker, Mr. Somnath Choudhury(Country Representative, Erasmus Mundus Association) guided students on all aspects of studying abroad.

The Department of Multimedia, Brainware University organized an online Workshop on Film Making on September 21, 2021. Keeping in mind the integral role film making plays in visual presentation, the workshop was organized to provide the participants with the tips and tricks of various professions and practices associated with Film Making.
To grace the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Dutta, Indian film director and editor associated with the Bengali film industry, was invited to be the guest speaker. The guest speaker shared his experiences and discussed some professional filmmaking techniques. This was followed by a lively Q&A session where the participants raised several queries regarding the art and forms of filmmaking which were patiently addressed by the speaker. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from the session coordinators, Mr. Goutam Banerjee and Mr. Sandip Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professors, Department of Multimedia.

The Department of Multimedia, Brainware University organised an Online Workshop on Matte Painting on September 18,2021 at 12 PM to discuss the career opportunities in the field of matte painting. Industry expert, Mr. Rittwik Jana(Matte Paint and Concept Artist) guided the students on the career prospects in this niche field.
He started by introducing students to samples made with professional matte painting techniques and showcased how to cater to clients’ demands. He advised students to expose themselves to a wide variety of art styles and then pick one which suits their sensibility the most. Mr. Jana also informed the students about specific companies looking to hire matte artists and what skills graduates can cultivate to appeal to this market.The final part of the session was devoted towards answering students’ career questions and Mr. Jana mentored them on making a successful career in art.

The Department of Law, Brainware University organized a workshop on ‘Role of Independent Director in Corporate Governance: A Review’ on September 20, 2021. The objective of the workshop was to elaborate how an independent director contributes in enhancing corporate credibility and governance standards. To grace the occasion, the guest speaker, Dr. Alok Ray, former Secretary of Corporate laws Committee, Ethical Standard Board, Corporate Governance Committee of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at New Delhi and also Study Groups on Networking of CA Firms was invited. The guest speaker introduced participants to the different ways in which the Independent Director plays a crucial role.

Rashtriya Poshan Maah Celebration

The Department of Allied Health Sciences, Brainware University celebrated the Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2021 on September 25, 2021. The objective of this event was to spread mass awareness about Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and how to prevent it to make a healthy society. To meet this goal, Ms. Sulagna Sarkar, State Nutrition Consultant, State Nutrition Support Cell, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Swasthya Bhawan, Salt Lake, Kolkata, and Ms. Koyel Pal Chowdhury, Research Dietitian, IPGMER, and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata were invited to be the chief guests. The session was conducted online through the Zoom platform with more than 300 participants from across the country.
The Poshan Abhiyaan was launched in March 2018 by the Prime Minister as the Indian government’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers aiming for holistic nutrition. Highlighting the relevance of the session, Ms. Sarkar said, “Today in 2021, India is not just fighting COVID-19 outbreak but is also battling existing undernutrition in the country. Mission Poshan 2.0 aims to implement a comprehensive, unified strategy to strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach, and outcome, with a renewed focus on developing practices.”
While Ms. Sarkar emphasized SAM, Ms. Koyel Pal Chowdhury talked about the relation between nutrition and depression. “Nutrition can play a significant role in the inception as well as severity and extent of depression. Many of the easily noticeable food patterns that precede depression are the same as those that occur during depression,” said Ms. Pal Chowdhury.

To imbibe humanitarian values among students, a Legal Aid Camp was organised and conducted by the faculty and students of the Department of Law, Brainware University at Kotra Gram Panchayat, Bamungachi, 24 Parganas(North) on September 19, 2021 under the supervision of Kaushik Banerjee, Purbita Das and Krishna Ghosh.

Some legal issues crucial to the people of that area were discussed and suggestions were provided by the students. The students worked in teams to understand the problems faced by the people and provided proper legal help to them. It enriched students’ understanding of law and its practice.In this regard Kaushik Banerjee rightly said, “Legal aid means providing an arrangement in the society so that justice becomes easily accessible and is not out of reach for those who are in dire need of it”
