National Youth Day celebration at Brainware University
Swami Vivekananda, a visionary concerned with uplifting the youth, he visualised the collective development of a nation through them. To keep the dialogue about his vision alive, Brainware University unveiled the Vivekananda Study Circle on his 160th birth anniversary (also celebrated as National Youth Day) on January 12, 2023.
The august event was attended by Chief Guest Swami Puruseshananda Maharaj (Belur Math), Guest of Honours Dr. Sanjay Mukhopadhyay (retired professor and author), and Dr. Sudipta Narayan Roy (Chairman, AYUSH Task Force and MD, Powell Group). After powerful speeches on Swamiji’s effervescent persona and ideas of self-belief by the Honourable Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, the event then proceeded to witness the release of “Chithipotrer Aloke Swamiji'', a book compiled by Dr. Sanjay Mukhopadhyay on the personal letters written by Swami Vivekananda. Contrary to the ascetic and philosopher that the masses identify him as the book presents a more humane version of Swamiji to the readers. Replete with insightful speeches by the dignified guests, each highlighting Swamiji’s ideals of nation-building, the event was a roaring success.

Vision and cataract screening camp at Brainware University: An initiative towards community health by the department of Allied Health Sciences
"I came across this banner that Brainware University is conducting an eye camp. I was facing problems with my eyes and needed a checkup so I walked in," said one of the patients who visited the 'Vision and Cataract Screening Camp' organised by the Department of Allied Health Sciences in collaboration with Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute on January 7, 2023. The camp was organised as a part of 'Students' Week 2023'.
One of the major challenges in the developing world is blindness, especially cataract related
blindness. India, as one of the biggest developing countries, has a large number of blinds requiring sight-restoring cataract surgery. There is a backlog of over 22 million blind eyes (12 million blind people) in India, and 80.1% of these are blind due to cataracts, as per a WHO/NPCB (National Programme for Control of Blindness) survey.
Sayani Pal Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Allied Health Sciences and Coordinator of the Cataract Screening Camp said, "We are offering various services like cataract screening for underprivileged people. We are also providing spectacles at a subsidised rate. In case anyone needs cataract surgery, we recommend that the patients get it at a subsidised rate from Sankara Jyoti Eye Institute."
This initiative by Brainware University will certainly benefit the underprivileged people from the neighbouring areas. "They are offering spectacles at a very low rate or else I would not have been able to afford the spectacle," said one of the patients.
