Second Annual Convocation

The students of Brainware University’s UG and PG passout batch 2019 witnessed the icing on their academic career as they were convocated with their respective degrees at the 2nd Annual Convocation Programme held on the 15th of February, 2020, at the University’s Barasat campus. Students of both the Undergraduate and Postgraduate departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Computational Sciences, Commerce and Management and Multimedia pertaining to the disciplines of BCA, MCA, BSCCS, MSCCS, BSCHN, MSCHN, BBA, MBA, BAMW and MAMW, who started their journey with the University as strangers in 2016 and 2017 academic sessions walked out of the gates as family with their degrees in their arms and heads held high.

Honourable Chancellor of Brainware University, Mr. Phalguni Mookhopadhayay, sought the blessings of our Guest of Honour Swami Vidyanathananda from the Ramakrishna Mission Marg and got the event underway. Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of West Bengal State University, graced the occasion as the distinguished Chief Guest. The dignitaries including Pro Vice Chancellor, Brainware University, Dr. Subhasish Banerjee applauded the effort, concentration and discipline of the students and wished them the best for their futures aspirations. The delegates led by our Honourable Chancellor, distinguished Chief Guest and venerable Guest of Honour convocated the batch of 150 pass-outs, marking one of the most auspicious days in their lives and careers.
Brainware University commends and congratulates them on their achievement.

India 2050: Prospects and Challenges; The Emerging Careers

description here Brainware University has build a platform to provide exposure to its students by organizing a talk “India 2050: Prospects and Challenges-The Emerging Careers”, on 4th February, 2020. On this occasion Prof. Rajiv Malhotra, the Professor and Executive Director of the Centre for Development and Finance at O.P Jindal Global University, graced the campus along with Mr. Hemant Prakash Sharma, Deputy Director, Admissions and research of O.P. Jindal Global University. In his keynote speech, Prof. Malhotra said that, while traditional careers in engineering and medicine continue to be important, all the same, the emerging professional opportunities shall stem from Business management, legal services, social sciences and liberal arts.

Eye-Screening Programme

description here The Department of Allied Health Sciences has conducted an Eye Screening Program in Faldi High School as part of their social responsibility on February 5 2020. More than 200 students were screened and provided proper advice as well referrals to the hospitals for further examination for the needy students. Dr. Somnath Ghosh and the students of the programme of Optometry took the part to conduct the screening program. The small effort can help to eradicate the avoidable blindness to the society.

Industry-Academia Collaboration in association with Ashok Leyland Limited

description here In an attempt to lead the paradigm in education in the new decade Brainware University organised a seminar at its Barasat campus on February 7, 2020, under its Campus2Corporate scheme. Mr. Pratyay Lahiri-Divisional Manager-HR, Ashok Leyland Limited, graced the event and spoke extensively on "How to bridge the gap between academia & industry?"Mr. Lahiri shared his experiences, opinions and advises giving the students vital know-how about industrial requirements before facing Campus Interviews.

A Visit to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital

description here The Department of Management conducted its very first industrial visit for its Hospital Management Students. A One day Hospital Exposure was organised at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata on February 8, 2020. The purpose of the visit was to observe a detailed overview about the structure of a Hospital and the overall functioning of some major departments. All the objectives were successfully achieved and the students were very encouraged and enlightened by the visit.

One-Day Awareness/Mentoring Session on IPR & IP Management

description here In view of rapid emergence of start-ups in India, it is essential for the students to not only learn the IRP-related issues, but also to assimilate all components of this contemporary subject. The Institute Innovation cell of Brainware University had organized a “One-Day Awareness/Mentoring Session on IPR & IP Management for Innovation and Start-Ups” on February 8, 2020, as the part of its constant endeavor towards excellence. Prof. (Dr.) Anirban Mazumdar of WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, delivered an engrossing lecture on the aforementioned topic with the recent developments in the related domain.

Birthday Celebration of Dayanand Saraswati

description here Brainware University celebrated the 196th birth anniversary of mystic and reformer Dayanand Saraswati on February 12, 2020. Organised by the department of Management and Commerce, the event saw the students of the department speak extensively about Saraswati and his contributions to not only the Indian state but also to the Indian society as a whole. Praising his ideas of liberty and secularism they highlighted how his ideals can help us mold a better world and be better human beings. Brainware University is proud to commemorate such a man and pledge to work on his ideals.

Radio Saves Lives & Reunite People

description here The Department of Cyber Science & Technology, Brainware University in association with West Bengal Radio Club had organized a one day seminar on “Radio Saves Lives & Reunite People” on February 13, 2020, at our Barasat campus aiming to cultivate the extensive use of Amateur (HAM) Radio communication for the benefits of mankind and society as a whole. The session was enlightened by Mr. Ambarish Nag Biswas - Secretary and Custodian, West Bengal Radio Club (Amateur Club). Mr. Sandipan Basumallick, Dr. Pasupati Mondal and Mr. Arunava Dey were the esteemed Guests of Honour.

Seminar on Budget

description here The Finance Minister of India, Honorable Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman presented Union Budget 2020 in Parliament on February 1, 2020. The School of Management and Commerce conducted a seminar on “Budget 2020” on February 13, 2020. An analysis and highlight of the budget was vividly discussed at the seminar. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Pranam Dhar, Professor, Department of Commerce and Management, West Bengal State University, Barasat.

A Visit to GNRC Hospital

description here The Department of Management conducted an industrial visitfor its Hospital Management Students at GNRC Hospital, Barasat, on February 15, 2020. The purpose of the visit was to provide students a clear idea about the Patient handling and the Patient Satisfaction and the professional responsibilities of a hospital management student in their working field.

Poetry Recitation Competition

description here Brainware University remembers the great poet of poets, Jibanananda Das on his 120th birth anniversary by organizing a poetry recitation competition on February 18, 2020. On this occasion, students recited the poems of the poet as well as poems penned by themselves. It was immensely satisfying to see students reciting Jibanananda Das in Hindi and English, making his poems even more relevant, to people who do not speak Bangla. As the varsity has always believed in nurturing and nourishing creativity, students were given a platform to read out poems penned by themselves also.

International Mother Language Day

description here The students of Brainware University enthusiastically celebrated their linguistic heritage by participating in various events such as cultural programs, debates, recitation competition on the occasion of “Matribhasha Diwas” on 21 February 2020. Students presented thought provoking ideas on multilingualism during the debate arguing for or against the topic: “Multilingualism in India: Resource or Burden”. It was gratifying to see the students presenting complex arguments in such a succinct manner in their own respective languages.

IOT: A Boon to Technology

description here The world of Information Technology is a rapidly evolving sector and students have to keep themselves informed about the latest developments in this field. Department of Computational Science & Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Brainware University, jointly held a seminar titled “IOT: A Boon To Technology” on February 22, 2020 to inform, update, and suggest the varied areas in which IOT (Internet of Things) as a concept can be effectively implemented. Mr. Avik Banerjee, Enterprise Architect, Ericsson Global India Pvt.Ltd, the guest speaker spoke at length about the vast area open to the students to exercise mastery over this concept.

Hicky and His Contribution in Indian Journalism

description here Department of Journalism, Mass Communication and Media Science organized a seminar on the contribution of James Augustus Hickey, the man behind the first newspaper in India, on February 27, 2020. Our eminent speaker, Mr. Biplab Kumar Chandra elucidated howHicky came to India overcoming several hardships and succeeded in starting his first newspaper in India. The participating students were enlightened on how Hicky brought printing press in Calcutta and initiated the first Indian printed newspaper “the Bengal Gazette”.

Machine Learning Workshop

description here Machine Learning is an application based on Artificial Intelligence which enables a machine to learn on its own. Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Brainware University organized a 3-day long workshop on “Machine Learning with Python” conducted by Mr. Sayantan Chakraborty, Technical Director of National Institute for Industrial Training from February 27 to February 29, 2020 at Brainware University.

Audio-Play Competition

description here Brainware University celebrated the 100th Birth Anniversary of the father of Bengali theatre, Girish Chandra Ghosh on February 28, 2020. On that day the Departments of English and Literary Studies and Journalism, Mass Communication and Media Science organized an Audio-Play Competition where students from different departments performed voice-acting on their own script. The scripts, like most of the plays by Girish Chandra, used comic mode to represent relevant social issues.

National Science Day

description here To commemoration the discovery of the Raman Effect by renowned Indian Physicist Sir C.V. Raman, the Institute’s Innovation Cell of Brainware University in collaboration with the various departments of the University organised a Students’ Presentation and Poster Making Competition on the topic “Women’s Contribution in the Scientific Development of India” and “Vision of Sir C V Raman for better, creative and Innovative India.”

Attitude Determines Altitude

description here A positive attitude is a mindset which helps to look into the brighter side of things and recognize the immense potentiality hidden in you. This was objective of the workshop namely ‘Attitude Determines Altitude’ conducted by Dr. Supratim Chowdhury, Head of Department of Human Resource, Kharagpur Metal Reforming Industries Private Limited, a renowned Motivational Speaker and Community Developer on February 29, 2020 at Brainware University. 

A Career in Legal Profession: The Road-map Ahead

description here The Department of Law, Brainware University organized a Seminar titled “A Career in Legal Profession: The Road-map Ahead” on February 29, 2020. Mr. Khaled Hamed Chowdhury, the main speaker of the seminar, is an Internationally acclaimed Barrister-at-Law, from Bangladesh who leads the London College of Legal Studies (South) in Bangladesh which is the only Affiliate and Approved Distance Learning Support Centre of University of London and BPP University, UK, in Bangladesh. Mr. Chowdhury, within a short period of 30 minutes, portrayed a sketch of “Alternative Dispute Resolution” and “Sports Law” as the career aspects of Law.

Highlights of the Month


Inter-College Moot Court Competition

Brainware University is proud to announce that a 3 member team from the Department of BBA LLB and LLB, 1st year, stood 3rd at an Inter-College Moot Court Competition held at Techno India University on the 6th and the 7th of February, 2020.
Brainware University participated in the competition with 3 teams of 3, comprising of 1 lead counsel, 1 speaker and 1 researcher. It was Team Mridutpal, Wali Amon and Shayan who wowed judges Dr. Vinod Kumar, National Law University (NLU), Delhi; Prof. Sairam Bhat, National Law School of India University(NLSIU), Bangalore; and Dr. Arup Kumar Poddar, National Law University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) to beat contestants from Amity University, West Bengal State University, Calcutta University, UEM University, and Techno India University to bag the 2nd runners up position and prize.
Brainware University is proud of their achievement and congratulates them wholeheartedly.

Photo-Frame

The Photography Club of Brainware University arranged a Photo-Walk event on February 28, 2020. This Photo-Walk event was also a part of ‘Ek Bharat Swachh Bharat’ curriculum. On this special occasion students and faculty members from different departments of Brainware University gathered for this Photo-Walk event at Kumortuli Park, Shobhabazar. Together they covered the entire distance from Kumortuli Park to Mullick Ghat Flower Market and captured the street life of Kolkata. Their journey through these long historical alleys of Kolkata added an extra essence of culture to this Photo-Walk event. Mr. Phalguni Mookhopadhyay, the chancellor of Brainware University also joined them during the Photo-Walk. The money raised in this Photo-Walk from the purchase of the ‘Photo-Walk’ t-shirt was donated to the welfare cause of five adopted villages of Brainware University.

Blood Donation Camp

Remember, each time you donate blood, you help a person to live more. Blood donation camp is one of such platforms where you can be the true saviour of mankind. The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Brainware University organized a Blood Donation Camp on February 28, 2020. Young students, extremely keen to help others, were first to respond to the call for donating blood and saving lives. The representatives from the Blood Bank of North 24 Parganas District Hospital were pretty surprised looking at enthusiasm among students as the number of first blood donors were really impressive. Good blood always shows itself.

A National Conference on “Community Health Connection” was organized by Department of Allied Health Sciences, Brainware University on February 29, 2020 at Brainware University, Barasat, Kolkata. The conference was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. Malay Raj Chandra Deputy CHOM, District North 24-Parganas and Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Subhasish Banerjee. The conference aimed to bridge between Allied Health Care Professionals and Community Health Care Providers. The event has covered all the segments of community health care such as Occupational Health Hazards by Dr. R Krishna Kumar, Principal, Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India; School Eye Health Problems by Dr. Anuradha Narayanan, Head- Community Service, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India; Communicable Diseases in the Society by Dr. Kaushik Chaudhuri, Nodal Officer (Dengue), Department of Health, WB Govt., Radiation Protection and Hazards - Public Awareness by Mr. Mahasin Gazi, Radiation Safety Officer, Apollo Hospital, Kolkata.

Students’ Corner


Phire Dekha

Brainware University opened up its gates for its old students of the university as well as for Brainware Group of Institutions during an alumni meet, Phire Dekha, on Saturday, 8th February, 2020. On the occasion of this reunion cultural programmes had been arranged for the entertainment of its students, which they enjoyed thoroughly. The current students of the University and Brainware Group of Institutions, participated in these cultural programmes. The atmosphere of the university was enlivened with music, dance, fun and frolic. Adda was in the air, one could see students catching up with their old friends,some of whom they had not seen in years. It was a day for the old students to connect with their Alma mater and reconnect with their past. Someone has so rightly said, "In the end, you always go back to the people that were there in the beginning."

Brainster 2k20

The Department of Management & Commerce and Institution Innovation Cell (IIC) jointly held the annual management fest Brainster 2K20 on February 21-22, 2020. The main aim of the event was to encourage the participants to exercise their management and business skills in new and exciting ways and to gain new insights from interacting with several prominent industry experts such as Mr. BL Mittal (Founder and Executive Chairman, SastaSundar.com), Mr. Kunal Bhattacharya (MD, Sustiknow Advisory Pvt.Ltd.), Mr. Avik Sarkar(GM Sales, Gulf Oil India Ltd.), and Mr. Rabin Roy(Founder, Sun craft Energy). Students from various colleges actively participated in various events such as debate, poster competition, case study presentation, and financial analysis among others to develop a high standard of entrepreneurial innovation. Brainwave University is glad to provide a platform for nurturing future innovators and making them market-ready potential. It hopes to make Brainster 2k20 an annual event. Next year we are determined to return with a bigger and better plan!
