Brainware University Third Annual Convocation 2020

A journey to success

The pandemic has forced us to re-define the university experience but Brainware University has remained unshakable in our commitment to students. To ensure that our students receive the accolades they deserve and receive the best possible send offs, the Brainware University Third Annual Convocation 2021 was held on April 24, 2021.
The occasion was further enriched by the presence of our chief guest Professor Anuradha Mukhopadhya (Chancellor, Diamond Harbour Women’s University) and our Guest of Honour Dr Gautam Das (Professor, Lakehead University Canada).
After the performance of Saraswati Vandana, Professor Sankar Gangopadhyay delivered the convocation address and paid tribute to the invincible spirit of our healthcare workers and educational institutions which are in their own ways waging war against the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged students to be responsible citizens and flag bearers of progress for our country.
Professor Anuradha Mukhopadhya and Dr Gautam Das too had sage words of advice for our students and they encouraged them to be upstanding human beings.
After the felication of university topper Saptaparni Sarkar and other toppers from respective batches, the programme came to an end with the National Anthem. We wish all our students a successful ride ahead in all their endeavours.

Workshop on Explore knowledge in Internet of Things- A New Dimension in Computer Science & Engineering

The world of information technology is changing at the speed of light. How can students make sure that they keep up with demands of the market? To help them out, The Department of Computer Science & Engineering organised a special Workshop on Explore Knowledge in Internet of Things- A New Dimension in Computer Science & Engineering on 5 April, 2021. Dr Debdutta Pal (Head of Department, Computer Science & Engineering) helped students explore the uncharted territories of IoT. She highlighted the emerging areas in the job market and the skillsets students have to possess in order to make a career in this area. IoT design and architecture and the industrial internet emerged as key areas of focus. The students were guided on international certificate courses for better career growth by Dr Pal.


Online Workshop on Disaster Management

To help future corporate professionals gain an understanding about managing natural disasters, the Department of Management and Commerce arranged a workshop on “Disaster Management” on April 13, 2021. Dr. Arun Banerjee (Adjunct Professor, Brainware University) was the guest speaker for the event. Keeping in mind the fact that institutions have to function in the face of vulnerability caused due to floods, cyclones, earthquakes and other natural disasters, Bannerjee said, “it is time for us to have a better understanding of disaster management. So that we can make necessary structural changes in order to create a safer society.”
The speaker shared various measures that we need to take to combat such disasters. This workshop helped the students to become responsible citizens and learn about effective disaster management so that they can be an asset to their employees and clients in the future.


Online Workshop on “Consumer Protection and Awareness”

Consumer Protection law is an important arena for legal professionals. To make the students aware of the provisions in this area and the job prospects, The Department of Law, Brainware University in association with the Central Library and the Library of School of Law organised A Workshop on “Consumer Protection and Awareness” on April 17, 2021 from 4 PM.
Mr Shibshankar Banerjee(Advocate, Supreme Court, National Consumer Forum) was the guest speaker for the event. He began the discussions by introducing the audience to the salient features of Consumer Protection Act of 2019 and the rights assured to the consumers.
Finally after a Q&A session moderated by Ms Mousumi Adak( Asst. Librarian) and Mr Mridutpal Bhattacharya (Student, Department of Law), the workshop came to a close with Dr Kabita Chakraborty delivering the vote of thanks.


Online Workshop on Internet of Drone Things

What’s the most fast-paced area of development in Information Technology? Experts have predicted that the extensive use of the Internet of Things (IoT) is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Keeping in mind the booming market in this field, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organised an Online Workshop on ‘Internet of Drone Things’ on April 19, 2021 to prepare students for a successful IT career.
Professor Debasis De (MAKAUT) was the guest speaker for the event. He started by introducing a particular area in which IoT is steadily gaining traction. “Smart cities powered by IoT have become common to us but do you know drones with in-built IoT systems are also extremely popular? The Internet of Drone Things is the next big revolution in the IT market so you need to be informed about it,” he explained.
Professor De also advised students to make the most of such developments by skill enhancement techniques. The session ended with him answering questions about career preparations and key job skills.


Online Workshop on Industrial Policy, Trade, and Self Reliant India

Want to be a leading industrialist in India? For our budding entrepreneurs The Department of Management and Commerce organised a special Workshop on Industrial Policy, Trade and Self Reliant India on April 28,2021. Surendar Singh(Senior Deputy Director, EEPC) answered the students’ questions regarding the industrial policies and resources the government has in place to fulfill the dream of a self-reliant India. He explained the resources students can use to set up their dream company. Innovation and self-reliance, Brainware University aspires to instill both of these in our students.


Highlight of the Month


Virtual Industry Visit

Hands-on experience is a crucial skill for technical graduates. The pandemic has put an end to industry visits but Brainware University continues to innovate. To help students prepare for the job market and understand the market scenario, a virtual industry visit was organized on April 2, 2021 by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in collaboration with the Institute Innovation Council.
Industry experts including Shamik Halder, Ashish Gaurav Sharma, Sanjukta Paul Dutta, Subhendu Saha, Sujit Sankar Kundu, Vikas Kumar Sahu through their extensive knowledge and experience provided the students with insights about how technology is used in both Telecom and ICT industries and the latest job opportunities in the field. No matter what, we always strive to give our students the best-in-class training.

Online Workshop to Celebrate World Optometry Day

In honour of all the optometrists and vision care workers who are devoted to maintaining a healthy India, The Department of Allied Health Sciences organised an online workshop on April 10, 2021 from 11 AM. The main aim of the workshop was to appreciate and raise awareness about the career opportunities in the profession of optometry among young students of the department.
Eminent optometry professionals Ms Lakshmi Shinde (Executive Manager, Global Education, International Association of Contact Lens Educators(IACLE), Australia) and Mr Nilesh Thite (IACLE, Australia) were the guest speakers for the event.
Ms Shinde informed the students about the recent Allied Health Professionals Bills introduced recently and the different opportunities it would bring in for young optometrists. Mr Thite too stressed on the need to be appropriately registered since it is very dangerous to practice without some degree of standardisation. He also discussed the different career opportunities for optometrists abroad.
The workshop ended with a skit by students which raised awareness about eye donation and maintaining healthy vision.
